Sanctuary Asia is a bimonthly magazine being published under the editorship of its founder-editor Bittu Sahgal since 1981. Sanctuary has been chronicling India’s natural history and shaping conservation discourse by bringing together popular articles by the stalwarts of conservation of ecology and environment including Salim Ali, Zafar Futehally, Humayun Abdulali, S.P. Shahi, Fateh Singh Rathore, Kailash Sankhala, M. Krishnan, A.J.T. Johnsingh, and several other nature conservationists of modern India over the past 40 years. The magazine has been a cornerstone among the periodicals in the conservation and natural history genre. The publications in the magazine have spearheaded and aided many nature conservation campaigns and influenced major environment policy making. The magazine is currently in its 41st year of uninterrupted publication.

The Archives of Contemporary India (ACI) decided to undertake the digitisation of the entire archives of Sanctuary Asia until 2011 (digital issues of the magazine are available with Sanctuary Nature Foundation from 2012 onwards) from Divyabhanusinh Collection housed in WWF-India library and now has the distinction of being the only institutional source for scholars to access all the digital archives of this magazine. This significant source material throws open a vast repository of natural history and conservation literature to scholars and researchers studying these subjects in India and across the world.
